To download MP3 files directly to an iPod touch, it must be recognized and used by Microsoft Windows 7 as a hard drive. To achieve this, you must connect your iPod touch to your computer in disk mode, using iTunes. MP3 files that you transfer to your iPod while it is in disk mode cannot be played back on the device. Basically, your iPod touch acts like a flash drive, not a media player.

Connect the iPod touch to your computer using the USB cable that came with the device.
2.Launch iTunes if it is not set to automatically start when you connect the device. It will recognize the iPod and connect to it.
3.Click the iPod in the Devices tab at the left. Detailed information about the iPod is displayed in the right pane. The Summary tab should be selected by default.
4.Place a check mark in front of the 'Manually manage music and videos' option. The iPod touch is connected in disk mode and Windows 7 assigns a drive to it.
5.Click the Windows 7 logo in the bottom-left corner of your screen and click 'Computer' to launch the native file manager.
